Simple hacks for when you don't feel motivated

We can have all the best intentions towards a situation in our life but if we feel tired, lost our confidence or get easily distracted, we can soon see our motivation levels quickly drop.

Then what happens next is we get caught up in the vicious circle of feeling like a failure and feelings of guilt and unworthiness rise up, so it's just easier not bother sometime right?

Wrong!

Even if it seems impossible you can do something to shift your mindset because motivation can sometimes be like a snow ball effect and even a small gesture can be all it takes to see a change — you don't have to do everything but always do something!

And if you're stuck for inspiration I have you covered, here is a list of easy actionable ideas to pick from:

- Set a timer for 5 minutes and commit to doing something until the timer goes off and if you don't feel like doing it any more then give yourself permission to stop, most of the time when we get stuck into a task we find the motivation to keep going.

- Write in your journal about how you feel, by jotting down why you feel the way you do you can easily unpick the reasons behind your lack of motivation and clear away any barriers that are stopping you - and if you don't have a journal maybe this can be a good time to start!

- Reward yourself! Just like we would a child sometimes giving ourselves a reward for getting things done can be very motivating, you can get as creative or fancy as you like with this after all you know what will best motivate you to get started!

- Plan it in, this works by scheduling the task in and it works best by doing it at the start of the day. Have you ever heard of the phrase eating the frog? This means to get something over and done with straight away so it's completed, if you you do this at the start of every morning or evening it will soon become a positive habit - imagine how much you will achieve after a week, month or year?

- Simply ask for help and you can do this by reaching out to someone who can be there to shared the load or find yourself an accountability partner, this is someone who has your permission to gently check up on you, encourages you to get things done and is your all round cheerleader, and you can return the favour by doing the same back for them!

So hopefully there's something here that feels achievable, even if you just take tiny steps. Investing in our mindset, even when the change feels hard and uncomfortable, is a really big way to take care of our wellbeing, you might not think you can do it and you might feel that your lack of motivation will always get in the way but remember you just haven't found a way to overcome it yet. And now you have some new ideas and hacks to help you grow!
